Durango Rapids Soccer Club will be conducting tryouts for next year’s U11, U12, U13 and U14 age groups (2012, 2013, 2014, 2015) birth years along with the 2011 Fall 8th Graders to form teams for the Fall 2025-Spring 2026 season. Additionally, the (2008-2011) high school girls age group will tryout to form teams for the Fall 2025 season. This will help us meet the needs of our members by providing a more competitive based environment, while still providing the continued development of all players. Tryouts are not mandatory for players but do assist dramatically with the proper placement of players.

The  club will be conducting tryouts with mixed age groups, training together, with the possibility of structuring mixed aged, ability-based teams. The first night of tryouts players will be grouped within their respective birth year. The second night of tryouts the birth years will be mixed. This provides a training perspective to determine how players perform within each age group.  The goal is to determine if a clear split of ability justifies players’ age groups being combined.

Currently, the breakdown of registered players is listed below:

2015 Boys = 19
2014 Boys = 25
2015 Girls = 14
2014 Girls = 14
2013 Boys = 17
2012 Boys = 19
2011 Boys (U15 8th graders) = 5
2013 Girls = 18
2012 Girls = 15
2011 Girls (U15 8th grader) = 1
2011 Girls (9th graders) = 16
2010 Girls = 17
2009 Girls = 8
2008 Girls = 5

It should be noted, all teams must play in the age division of their oldest player. For example, a team made of 2013 & 2012 (incoming U13 & U14) players is categorized as a U14 team and will play in U14 divisions in both league and tournaments.

*Team structure is at the discretion of the Directors of Coaching.  This is highly dependent on player pool numbers and ability level in the group.*

Tryout fee: $10 (please bring to Tryout. Checks payable to DRSC). Players who are not registered for tryouts cannot participate in the identification days.

Players MUST bring both their White and Maroon game jerseys to the tryouts for training identification purposes. Players who are new to DRSC will be given a training bib in lieu of the jersey.

DRSC coaches will evaluate players on the four pillars of player development including the following:

  1. Technical (Skill) Development
    • ball control – receiving (1st touch), second touch, passing
    • 1v1 moves
    • shooting, heading
    • shielding
    • etc.
  2. Tactical Development
    • systems of play suited to number of players on field
    • Executing positional roles
    • essential game elements – overlaps, give and go, switching play, etc.
    • recognizing other team’s tactics
    • etc.
  3. Physical Development
    • speed
    • endurance
    • strength
    • agility
    • flexibility
    • etc.
  4. Mental Development
    • focus
    • concentration
    • confidence
    • decision making, anticipation, perception
    • team atmosphere and environment
    • Etc.

The first and second night will include a technical warm-up, small sided, and 9v9 or 11v11 full sided game play. Additionally, the Directors of Coaching and the current age group coaches are continually evaluating players over the course of the 2025 Spring season to add to the identification process. If a player cannot attend both nights of tryouts we will use the one night plus their regular coach's evaluation for placement.

*Team structure is at the discretion of the Directors of Coaching.  This is highly dependent on player pool numbers and ability level in the group. *

*Registration is June 1 - JULY 1.

*If you want to play soccer, but are not interested in an ability based team you DO NOT have to attend the tryouts.  Instead, all you have to do is register your player and they will be placed on an age/skill appropriate team.
